Work At Home

Why home based businesses make sense and why many people choose to work from home nowadays? Technology does wonders. It has helped us build our great cities, cure previously untreatable diseases, and even put men on the moon. And today, the evolution of technology is once again revolutionizing our lives. Modern communications technologies, ranging from the Internet to mobile networks to portable computers, have made it possible for us to carry our work around wherever we go. And with that, it is now possible for us to work from home; a luxury that people in decades past could only dream of. In the past, work had to be carried out at the work place and was based on fixed schedules. This was necessitated by certain reasons. Most obviously, all the tools and equipment we do our work with used to be kept in the office or workshop or factory, and we had to be there in order to use them. Secondly, customers and suppliers need to be able to reach us, so they need to know where we are and when we will be there. Finally, everybody's workday used to be nine-to-five, so that everyone would be at work at the same time and it would be easier for us to coordinate our economic activities. Fortunately for our generation, these reasons are not holding water any longer. First of all, many of us are no longer working with spanners, hammers, irons, big machines and engines. For the majority of us, “work tool” relates to the Personal Computer and the Mobile Phone. And since these two items can be easily carried around, the number one reason why we need a fixed workplace is no longer valid. Secondly, with mobile technologies, our connectivity has increased so much that it is no longer necessary for us to be at a fixed location for our customers to find us. We just need our Mobile Phone and Internet connection. We don't even need a physical storefront nowadays because Internet trade could be carried out purely on Cyberspace. And coordination is no longer constrained by the requirement to have same working hours, because nowadays we have Emails and SMSes, technologies which allow messages to be saved for long periods of time. Add to all these the ability of the Internet to send huge amounts of information instantly to any place on the face of the Earth, and it is looking as if going to the office to work is no longer making much sense. Instead of asking how we can work from home, it is beginning to be more appropriate to ask why we have to work from the office in the first place! Okay... Now that we have established why we CAN work from home, maybe we should look at why we WANT to work from home. The main reason would of course be Freedom and Flexibility. Who doesn't want more time and space in their lives? The ability to work from home allows us to fit in so much more into our lives than if we were forced to stay in the office 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. Those with family commitments would of course appreciate this flexibility even more. Young children cannot be expected to have their needs altered to fit in with the office schedule. Most of the time, it used to be either give up the job, or delay having a family. Isn't it great that our generation is getting a way out of this predicament? Raising a family and running a business could now go hand-in-hand. This isn't just a convenience; it actually helps the development of children to have them grow up in the midst of a business so that their commercial savvy and real-world education is enhanced. Finally, doing business from home allows us to find ourselves. No longer are we like slaves selling away our hours on a job that we hardly find meaningful. The whole idea of Internet Businesses run from Home is one that empowers the soul to reach its full potential; to fly towards the direction of our interests and capabilities, without being restrained by tight schedules and ugly office politics.
